St. Mary’s Spring Estate Farm / Marylynn Hunt
Overview
This is a "Love Haida Gwaii Business", featured on the Love Haida Gwaii Website.
Our farm is located on 25 acres of ocean front property on Haida Gwaii near St. Mary’s Spring surrounded by beautiful forest. We are a hobby farm with goats, chickens, ducks, pigs sometimes, and geese.
We sell our eggs at the Isabel Creek organic food store in Queen Charlotte and the farmers markets. We make goat cheese and yogurt to eat and to trade for honey, and vegetables from other farms. I am also learning how to make soap with our goats milk. We are working toward self-sufficiency and grow as much food as we can in our 2 gardens, new fields, and green house.
Being so isolated we are affected by storms and ferry schedule changes which affects the quality and availability of produce, so we produce our own goat milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, eggs, vegetables, berries, jams, preserves, wines, herbs, and goat/pig/chicken meat. We have a large garden that we fenced last year and planted with vegetables and grains for us and our animals and we are currently making a new field to grow hay and oats. We also have 16 fruit trees that we planted 4 years ago and a large strawberry and raspberry patch.
My goal this year is to have fresh fruit and berries grown and harvested here on Haida Gwaii available at the local markets.
Currently we regularly sell vegetables in season, eggs, fresh breads, wild berry jellies, and goat milk soaps.
