Christine Carty, weaver, has over 15 years’ experience working with cedar and creating artistic pieces. Christine was mentored in the basics of weaving and finishing with cedar, by teachers, April and Holly Churchill in 1996.
She has taught red & yellow cedar harvesting, preparation and storage techniques as well as basket and hat weaving courses, since 2007. Christine also instructs advanced courses in weaving twined hats; pattern work, open weave hats and baskets.
Christine's work is on display at the Haida Heritage Centre and the Canada Council Art Bank Collection as well, her cedar weavings have been displayed on the “Northern Adventure” (BC Ferries) and have taken First Place in the Weaving Category with the Art Piece – “Clam Basket”, at the Whistling Bones Multidisciplinary Arts Festival – Juried Art Show, 2007
