Christmas camping at Mosquito Lake
What to do on Christmas eve if you are far from home?
A great option is to go out camping, right?

A friend and I decided a last minute trip to Mosquito lake on the morning of December 24th. It turned out this year was a white christmas after all.

When you leave the coastal strip and venture inland, chances are you will encounter some snow. We set out in our van and onto some pretty slippery back roads towards Mosquito lake. The day was beautiful and great for taking pictures.

Very little paddling to do. No sound. The stillness of the day was perfect.

When the waters are calm like this, and it is not pouring rain, the area is amazingly pretty, and, as it turns out, any time of year.

Sure, the evening was a little nippy. Sure, coffee water for breakfast froze overnight, but nothing is perfect... At least there were no bugs!
All in all, a pretty memorable christmas by the fire, surrounded by frozen wilderness. No regrets.
I'd recommend winter outings to anyone. Make sure you have a good sleeping bag, or, like us, just bring a few extra sleeping bags.
