All Islands Art Show - Haida Gwaii Museum at Kaay Llnagaay - Skidegate - March 10th to April 8th 2017

Grand opening of this art show is at the Haida Gwaii Museum at Ḵay Llnagaay 7PM, March 10th, 2017

The All Islands' Art Show is an annual event held to showcase the visual artists of Haida Gwaii. The adjudicated show is held at the Haida Gwaii Museum and welcomes artists working in a variety of media. A Youth All Islands' Art Show is also held on a bi-annual basis.

Seniors' Winter Games - Queen Charlotte - April 22

The 'Winter Games' is a popular event for all islanders (50+) and is organized each year by one of the Haida Gwaii communities. The 'Games' consist of scheduled recreational activities and include lunch, entertainment and an opportunity to socialize with friends and acquaintances islands-wide.  Islanders under 50 are welcomed and encouraged to attend and cheer on the participants.

Trout Derby - Mosquito lake, Moresby Island - Sunday of the May long Weekend - May 21st 2017

This fun family event at Mosquito Lake is hosted on the Sunday of the long-weekend, by the Sandspit Rod and Gun Club.  This is a popular weekend of camping and fishing for all ages. Contact Jim Henry for more information at 250.637.2212

Aboriginal Day Celebration (Old Massett) Every year on June 21st

Come celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures and outstanding achievements of First Nations in Canada. This is a National Event.

Hospital Day Parade and Events (Queen Charlotte) Every 3rd Sunday in June - This year: June 17th, 2017

Hospital Day has been an annual tradition on the Islands since 1908, when islanders came together to raise funds to build the first hospital in "Queen Charlotte City." It is the oldest community holiday on Haida Gwaii. Visitors and residents come together to play games, enjoy one another's company and celebrate their unique Island lifestyle. A colorful parade starts the day off and is followed by ball games, races and children's events.



Canada Day Events (Port Clements) - Mud bog, fishing derby and more - July 1&2

Each year, the Village of Port Clements and its residents, go all out to host Canada Day celebrations for the Islands. The day begins with a pancake breakfast followed by a parade leading the crowds to the community park to participate in go-cart races, games and more. The highlight of the celebration is the mud bog with participants and spectators from every community on Haida Gwaii.

Skidegate Days  - Skidegate - canoe races and more July 6-8, 2017

The Skidegate Days celebrations kicks off with a pancake breakfast at the 'small hall' in Skidegate. Everyone is invited to come out for the fun. The multi-day event includes slo-pitch tournament, Haida canoe races, games, a salmon barbeque dinner and a variety of food and game booths.



Totem to Totem Marathon - Skidegate - July 15, 2017

The annual Totem to Totem Marathon is a spectacular ocean-side course from the Haida Heritage Centre (Skidegate) to St Mary’s Spring and back.  This increasingly popular destination marathon has been designated a qualifier race for the Boston Marathon.

All Islands Seniors Picnic (Tlell Fall Fair Grounds) July 26th 2017 - To be confirmed

A fun filled social activity at the Tlell Fall Fair Grounds. The day consists of a potluck picnic, music, a loonie auction and is open to all (50+) islanders.

Loggers Sports Day (Sandspit) - July 22, 2017

Sandspit Loggers Sports Day has been a tradition in Sandspit for over 50 years. The day begins with a parade through Sandspit followed by competitions in axe throwing, sawing, setting chokers, burling and a greased pole climb.

Tlell Fall Fair - Tlell - Sunday August 6th, 2017

This small agricultural fair is held in the community of Tlell which has been the agricultural hub of Haida Gwaii for over a century. The primary goal of the fair is to provide education on agriculture and aquaculture on Haida Gwaii. The Tlell Fall Fair is the earliest Fall Fair in BC and yet food producers on Haida Gwaii never fail to have plenty of quality local produce on display. The exhibit building’s walls and tables are laden, each year, with baked goods, arts/crafts, flower arrangements, house plants, sewing/needlework and quilts and the livestock exhibits are a draw for all ages. There's even live music throughout the afternoon just to make your day even better.

Edge of the World Music Festival - Tlell - August 11-13 2017

The Edge of the World Music Festival has been a popular event on Haida Gwaii since 1975. The event has grown from a celebration of local musical talent to one which now includes world class musicians, attracting national and even international visitors to Haida Gwaii.

Masset Harbour Day - Masset - Every second Saturday in August - Cancelled for 2017

Masset Harbour Day begins with the Lion’s traditional pancake breakfast at Howard Phillip’s Community Hall followed by a morning of activities for the children at the recreation field. Activities include sumo wrestling, a bouncy castle, go cart races and face painting. The parade, always a crowd-pleaser, begins at 1pm along Main Street.

Agate Man Triathlon - Masset - August 19, 2017

The race consists of a 500 metre swim in Pure Lake, a 20 km bike ride to Masset Fire Hall followed by a 6 km run around the Delkatla Wildlife Sanctuary. Solo or relays.

Haida Heritage Center Celebration (Skidegate) August 19

The Haida Heritage Centre (Ḵay Llnagaay) celebrates the anniversary of the opening of the award-winning cultural centre. The celebration begins with a clan parade followed by a day of activities and cultural celebrations, including storytelling and dance performances.

Moresby Explorers Pig Roast - Sandspit - Last Saturday in August - This year: August 26th

Everybody is welcome for this annual end-of-season party put up by The Moresby Explorers management and crew. Pig Roast and potluck style dinner with live bands and other entertainment. Come and celebrate the end of the season in style. 



Sandspit Wild Harvest Festival - Sandspit - September 8 & 9 2017 - To be Confirmed

Haida Gwaii Celebrates the bounty of the islands and its wild harvests.

Mushroom foray, Botany and marine ecology tours with experts, Guest speakers, wild mushroom identification and processing and more! Wild food sampling, "Wild Harvest Cafe" and the signature "Wild Harvest Dinner", by a renowned local chef.

Coho Salmon Derby - Sandspit & Copper Bay - Sept.16/17, 23/24, 30/Oct1, and Oct.7/8 2017

The annual Coho Derby hosted by the Sandspit Rod and Gun Club, has been a popular event in Sandspit for over 60 years. It is held for four consecutive weekends ending on Thanksgiving Day weekend. The derby attracts residents and  many off island fishers.

Annual Surfing Expression Session  - Tow Hill - Coincides with the November Full Moon - November 3rd and 5th 2017

North Beach Surf Shop has been hosting the increasingly popular Surfing Expression Session on North Beach since 2008. Each year, residents and visitors islands-wide head out to North Beach either to participate in or watch the surf action. The event provides free lessons for beginners and ample surf time (if the conditions are good) for the more experienced.

Haida Gwaii Film Festival - This event is not happening in 2017 but will resume in November 2018

The Haida Gwaii Film Festival, founded in 2009, brings quality Canadian and international films to Haida Gwaii.The festival also provides workshops on various aspects of the film industry.
